The Tree of Life and a New take on an Old Code

I've recently been checking out the Gnostic work of Samael Aun Weor which can be found on GnosticRadio.com. I am particularly interested in the work Aun Weor's done with Kabbalah in interpreting obscure text such as John's Revelation. One area I've struggled with however is Samael's idiosyncratic views on fornication and adultry.

Ann Weor defines fornication as any kind of sex where orgasm is reached, be it between married or unmarried people. This correlates with Tantric sexual practices that focus on raising the Kundalini up the spine through sexual transmutation, which then allows the chakras/sephirot to be enlightened and Christ/Buddah/Krishna/Adam Kadmon Consciousness to be reached (let me know if I missed someone)..

I don't have a problem embracing the idea of tantric sex contributing to enlightenment but Ann Weor seems to almost demonize any other form of sexual expression that does not conform to this model. In fact, he blames the Fall on having sex as animals (since orgasm is attained). I find this view to be potentialy helpful in making sense of the so-called forbidden fruit and why biblicaly sexual relations are described as "knowing" each other, but from a practical sense I find this view lacking common sense (pardon the pun) and an acceptance of the therapuetic value of healthy sexual expression.

I decided to do some research on my own to see where this notion of fornication was conceaved (sorry more puns). Turns out that the Hebrew word for Fornication is Zanah which is spelled Zayin (Z), Nun (N), Hey (H) I found this odd since Zayin means woman of valor (see www.inner.org/HEBLETER/zayin.htm ), Nun means the Messiah ( www.inner.org/HEBLETER/nun.htm ) and Hey means Expression ( www.inner.org/HEBLETER/hei.htm ). In Greek Zanah is translated into Porneia.

Zanah has been said to translate as Harlot or one who acts Whoreingly. I found this interesting editorial piece www.angelfire.com/bc2/Bereans/MD/tw.html that makes the case for why this word Zanah is used by Jesus as opposed to the Hebrew word for Adultry, Naaph.

The writer says "This is why: Porneia (fornication, harlotry, whoredom) strongly carries the connotation of a continuous way of life and character. Moicheia (adultery), on the other hand, connotes single acts, and does not necessarily carry the atmosphere of continuance or character. Distinguished, then, in this sense, Christ appears to be saying, by his choice of words, that single acts of unfaithfulness (moicheia), while a terrible abomination and possibly having terrible consequences for the rest of life that cannot be reversed, can be forgiven by the partner if there is true repentance and forsaking; but that fornication (porneia, harlotry, whoredom) as a fixed way of life makes continuation of a marriage impossible, however loving, Christlike and forgiving a partner may be."

My view is that Zanah is indicating a person who is having sex in an unconscious compulsive manner such as a sex addict. I come to this conclusion based on the Hebrew letters and their meanings. Zayin, a woman of valor is somehow bent over into an unconcious "fish", another symbol of Nun), seeking salvation (Hei is the letter added to Abram and Sarai's names once their convenent with God's brings a child they had painfully desired more than anything).

IMO sexual addiction like any other addiction is born out of the pain of a severed connection to one's spiritual source. I can see why this type of use of the sexual energies would be like throwing gasoline on the fire of that pain. The letter that follows Nun reinforces this notion as Nun progresses into Samech which means "endless cycle".

Ayin (which mean Eye) is the letter that comes next in which this cycle can be broken.

"One then experiences the Eyes of God lovingly watching over and guarding each one of his children Israel. This brings one to sense the existential separation of the holy from the profane, the righteous from the unrighteous, and to identify with the good. Finally one experiences the Infinite Eye of God directing every created being to its ultimate fulfillment of purpose in Creation, thereby bringing all Creation to realize its Divine Purpose. Here, one's awe itself is in the face of the revelation of God's Infinite Love for all ("all is right"). This is the secret of sweetening."

I used to wonder why I've seen mainly two different types of Tree of Life constructs. One is the Luria construct which has Malchut attached to Yesod without connections to Hod and Netzach and the Cordevero construct which connect Malchut to all three. Leonora Leet cleared this up for me in her book “The Secret Doctrine of Kabblah” when she explained that the Luria tree depicts the Fall or post-breaking of the vessels from the inability of the construct to hold the full brilliant light.

The Cordevero tree depicts the reconnection of Malchut to Hod and Netzach as a result of the "Great Work". Not sure if she used those words but that's how I read it. If we overlay the 10 Commandments to the Tree of Life, we can get some strong linkages to this theme. We know the 10th Commandment refers to coveting and not focusing on lack which the physical world tricks us into believing when we see others possesing things we don't have. The more we feel the lack the more we fall into an instinctual mode of behavior - especially with Yesod reflecting our shadow back to us. Yesod is related to the Moon and the letter Nun which I referenced above, as being the second letter in the Hebrew word Zanah which has been translated as fornication. Yesod is also referred to as the false self and directly relates to the 9th Commandment to not bear false witness. This is the act of deceiving ourselves into justifying our instinctual behavior as right and proper. It's kind of like denial for an addict where there is just no reasoning allowed for by the addict. There is nothing wrong in his or her opinion. Marriages can be lost, lives torn apart, and children hurt unnecessarily because the person is blinded to everything but what is desired. A vicious cycle occurs because pain and shame feed endlessly and is directly related to the disconnection from Hod which is Glory, and Netzach which is Victory.

The 8th Commandment associated with Hod is thou shalt not steal. Steal what? How about the energy of others? Our own sexual energy has been blocked and as soon as we can unite with another's, we drink it up like a vampire. As soon we beome vampires, we spread it on with Netzach and it's associated commandment prohibiting adultry. The flowing energy that was severed in the Fall now has turned into adulterated energy of instinctual based exchanges everywhere, with everyone. This corrupts our sensibilities and keeps us further away from what we really seek which is the solar center of Beauty found in Tipheret, which is also the mediation point for the higher self found in the upper sephirot.

Of course the 6th Commandment is: Donot Murder, which we've effectivelydone to ourselves by cutting off our solar center from the lower light which seeks to merge with the higher light. This then continues the endless cycle of pain and meaninglessness.

Breaking through the instinctual self to the human self is the only way out. The ethical way is when we wake up to each other (and mainly to ourselves) to begin acting with integrity. The more we do this, the more the pathways to Hod, Netzach and Tipheret open up and our humanity born. IMO, this is the meaning of being born again.

Moses discovers a god named "I am" in the midst of a burning bush. This god also tells Moses to remove his shoes because he is on "holy" ground. He comes down from the mountain with two testa – ments (actually the Hebrew word for testicles and stones are the same). I smile when I look at this and put this emerging feminine perspective around it to say Perhaps - Big Perhaps - The burning bush refers to the seat of the kundalini fire, the holy ground denotes we have a feminine presence related to the earth and tablets are the testes/ovaries inscribed with guidance to re-establish the "I am" within.

In Kabbalistic language, Moses had ascended to Yesod where he encounters the Shekinah in Sina - Samech, Nun, Hey on Mt. Sinai - Somech, Nun Hey, Yud. Samech means The Endless Cycle www.inner.org/HEBLETER/samech.htm

The tablets are inscribed (put to memory) in the lower mental sephirot of Hod and Netzach. The first set of tablets are broken when Moses sees the Golden Calf or the externalization of the feminine energies as an idol when the feminine is meant to be internalized so the cow is made into powder and the Israelites are forced to eat it so that it can be internalized and be reminded that animales are for sustanence - We must rise above the animal to be human.

When the tablets are broken - the paths are broken from Netzach and Hod to Malchut that Moses had just re-established on Sinai so the Israelites must learn again how to reconnect Malchut to Glory and Victory but this will happen with a new generation (regeneration) of Israelites that know freedom (the children of the slaves after 40 years - 40 being the time it takes for this message to be received).

I propose that the Luria Tree - the one without the connections to Hod and Netzach be referred to as the Phallic Tree or the Patriarchal Tree and the Cordevero Tree - the one with the connections to Hod and Netzach be referred to as the Hermetic Tree or Kadmon Tree. The first Adam (Kadmon) was created male and female before the Fall which I am reframing here as the matricide that occured when the demiurge or false creator god was introduced into our collective psyches and Abraham was dispossed of the land in order to reposess it under the mission of the redeeming demiurge.

The reconnection of Malchut to Hod and Netzach can only occur when the suppressed feminine within - is reclaimed and reintegrated into the consciousness. This is reflected in the 5th Commandment to Honor thy Father and thy Mother - within, and corresponds to the Sephira Guvurah or Judgment which is the first purely divine attribute in the Tree of Life above Tipheret.

It's Judgment or discernment that is required to seperate truth from falsehood and fantasy from reality. Tricky business.

If my view of the Trees are accurate and we have a male tree and and a female or hermetic tree, then I think we can take a shot at Leviticus 18:22 - "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it [is] abomination."

The interesting thing about this verse is that Mankind is translated from the Hebrew word Zakar , Z(Zayin), C (Kaf), R (Resh). There are only three other uses of this word in the entire bible, one of which is a reiteration of the first and the other two from the New Testament so who knows if they had Hebrew origins:

Lev 20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood [shall be] upon them.

1Cr 6:9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

1Ti 1:10 For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;

Whenever I see a word that is used only once in a particular place in the bible, I take note. This is important. The word for Womankind is Isha which is the common word for women. Zacar is only used in this one context and the two similar verses. When this occurs I look at each letter.

We already know Zayin means Woman of Valor which seems odd to begin a word denoting Mankind but the next letter Kaf means The Crown: The power to Actualize Potential www.inner.org/HEBLETER/kaf.htm . To me this is the crown of Kether as it sits in Malchut wiating for it to rise up the Hermetic Tree to it's high position. The next letter Resh means Process - the Art of Clarification - again reiterating this theme since it also means Head and the beginning of Wisdom.

In the following verse 20:13 something very insidous happens. The verse is: If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood [shall be] upon them. The verse put to death is inserted by repeating the Hebrew word Muwth or Mem-Vav-Tav. In the text it is only shown once and means "Surely be put". The Put to Death translation is added and would read without it: If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely have their blood [shall be] upon them.

Blood is the Hebrew word Dam or Dalet, Mem - door of water which is also the base for Adam. Yesod is the place where blood is either menstruated in the female or turned into semen in the male. Without the channels to Hod and Netzach, only blood would be upon one in the sexual act. The abomination of course is the act of lovemaking without the female force or Shekinah active in whoever or whatever the person is - male, female, who cares, it's the Tree that's being referenced here in my opinion.

Homosexuality is something every human being is guilty of when the goddess within is shut out.

We now move to the Sephirah of Chesed and 4th Commandment of Observing the Sabbath.

Chesed means loving kindness or what I'd like to suggest: Rest-oration. So many levels of meaning when you break-up the word restoration.

Wholeness is what Restoration seeks as does the observation of the 7th day. This Sephirah is associated with Jupiter.

Jupiter is known for it's expansiveness and it's philosophical nature - that of putting all the pieces together to get the big picture. There is a playful nature in this. Gevurah is Indicative and Chesed is Invitational. Whereas Gevurah is stingy with the benefit of the doubt, Chesed is all about faith. There is meaning in life and it's found in gratitude.

The Shabbat ritual seeks to give the participant a sense of the Messianic Age by creating a 24 hour space of sacred time. Lighting the two candles symbolizes the marriage of the bride and bridegroom - Malchut and Kether from our Tree of Life. Lecha Dodi is the song that is sung to welcome the bride - the Shekinah to wedding party from Malchut. Luria and his followers would sing this song as they paraded to the synagogue dressed in white for the Sabbath services at sundown in Sfat, Israel.

There is Wholyness about this that invites all into the mood of gratefulness and abundance which is represented by double loaves/portions of bread and the prayers that express gratitude to the King (Melach) Kether - for the fruit of the vine, the wine representing spirit and the bread representing sustenance and matter. Hands are washed and a blessing said to add purity to the temple of our bodies and our children our blessed to acknowledge our love for them.

It is out of this environment that meaning is revealed - as the number 7 and Chesed share a gift for seeing into what's true. Silence is meditative and study is reflective. Transformation into wholeness is accomplished as the world begins to look much more right and a lot less wrong.

In the context of the sexual act rabbis have suggested that lovemaking is at it's best on this day. The act itself bathed in the sacred time that's created can't help but be more satisfying than a stress reliever type of encounter. Hearts should be much more open and energy exchanges almost magical. I culd go on and on which is the danger of Chesed but there is a cutoff point becasue there is another octave to begin and cycle continues with Samech in the Ch, S, Dalet. The doorway of holy endless cycle.

To get from Chesed to Binah we must cross the abyss of Daat, which means Knowledge. The word Binah itself means Understanding.

The Tree of Knowledge in the Garden of Eden was called the Knowledge of Good and Evil or Good and Bad – no matter, the point is that this is the set-up for learning “to be like gods” by going through the experience of duality. The first clue to this mystery is the expression to be like gods – in the plural sense. There are so many god names to contend with in the Hebrew, including the name Elohiem which is plural in itself, that it’s no wonder the expression says gods. The paradox though is that we are told there is only one God and in fact, in the Shema prayer we are told “The lord is one”. The rabbis tell us that these god names are just aspects of the one God.

In the third commandment we are told not to take God’s name in vain. Here, the text specifically speaks of God in the singular sense. So if this is the case, are we supposed to not take one particular name in vain or does this apply to any particular name we choose from the large stable of God names? And what in God’s name does Vain mean anyway?

I was brought up to mean that taking God’s name in vain meant to not swear with his name in the expression such as God Damn it. This kind of made sense until there were plenty of other words a lot nastier that didn’t contain the word God at all. I think you know most of them.

The definition of Vain that works here for this particular exercise is from Webster’s - vain 1. Having no real substance, value, or importance; empty; void; worthless; unsatisfying. ``Thy vain excuse.'' ... 2. Destitute of forge or efficacy; effecting no purpose; fruitless; ineffectual; as, vain toil; a vain attempt. ...

When I look at these meanings or lack of meaning they convey, I find all the Hebrew God names to be just that, lack of substance/meaning. This is in direct contrast the second commandment which asks us to basically keep the notion of God totally void of image. What’s up with this schism?

In my blog, I’ve written an essay that proposes to solve for the real name of god utilizing gemmatria and the breakthrough analysis done by Gregg Braden in his book, “The God Code”. This is a complicated treatise and requires a patient approach to the work. In this post, I want to take a different approach for solving this riddle – still using gemmatria but in much simpler context.

In the Hebrew bible there is one particular God name that is given the most prominence – YHVH which is the amalgamation of the letter Yud-Hey-Vod-Hey. The problem with these letters is that it is impossible to say this God name because no one knows how to pronounce it (supposedly the high priests knew how to pronounce it and would only do so in private on Yom Kippur – the Day of Atonement. The reason the name is unpronounceable is that each letter can have its own sound or be silent within a word. I guess this would make the 3rd commandment a “free pass” law since there is no way to break the rule since the name is so empty and meaningless anyway, how do you make it worse? And for those swearing folks, try to say YHVH Damn it!


Of course you can go the way of the translators and make it Jehovah or Jave or Yavay, etc. but that’s just purely ignoring the Hebrew intent of keeping this name an enigma, in my opinion. Yah is one variation that is used in Hebrew however but very rarely.

The other god name that appears over and over in the bible is Elohiem. Elohiem is given the distinction of being the Creator god but the form is plural. The God name El is the singular from of this name and is spelled Aleph-Lamed EL. This god name is what was discovered on ancient wall writings in the pre-patriarchal sites around in the world in a form of Hebrew known as the Negev script. I found this out doing some research on the Hopi Indians and it turns out the Hopi alphabet has the same number of letters as the Hebrew and the writing is in this Negev script style. What also interesting about the El name is that the pagan god names such as Baal, referred to in the bible, contain a variation of this El name.

When you read the text of the bible, Elohiem and YHVH alternate frequently. In prayers, the name Adonai which means the lord, is used when YHVH is in the prayer. I like to read that as I dunno the name so I say I dunno

YHVH is given the superior status over all the other gods because he is “the Father” and indeed, this god name is associated with Chochmah, the next Sephira up the tree. It only makes sense that if Chochmah is associated with the Father, then Binah must be associated with the Mother and indeed it is. Bet Nun Hey connotes a container for creation or a womb. El is the God name associated with Binah although most often it’s shown in its plural form as it is in the Bible – Elohiem. Is El or Elohiem the God name that we are supposed to not take in vain?

The problem with El being the name Commandment 3 refers to is that YHVH allows no other gods to be above it. This is shown in the text. From a gemmatria standpoint though, YHVH adds up to 26 and EL adds up to 31. This gives more gemmatria weight to EL. With logic that only a higher intelligence could come up with meshed with an extraordinary sense of humor, The God name El must be reduced to 4 from 31 by adding the two digits together. Now the name YHVH is larger then El by a count of 22 or the full breath of the Hebrew aleph-bet from the first to the last letter. YHVH is now the aleph and bet or the alpha and omega over EL.

This is all lovely games with numbers but if the Mother and Father are combined through the Understanding that they were separated as a result of partaking of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, what would happen?

In my God Code essay, I come to the conclusion that the name of god when combining the 5 elements of DNA – earth (carbon), air (nitrogen), fire (hydrogen), water (oxygen) and phosphorus is LOVE. In Hebrew and Arabic the word is Le or El Ohev or To Love.

In this exercise, let’s just add up the letters using the funny logic above and we get 26+4 which equals 30 and is equivalent to the gemmatria value of the letter Lamed. L once again.

Aspiration: Contemplation of the Heart

“In The "Letters of Rabbi Akiva," the full spelling of the letter lamed (lamed-mem-dalet) is read as short for the phrase: "a heart that understands knowledge" (lev meivin da'at). The numerical value of this phrase (608) equals "heart" (32) times "Eve" (19), i.e. "the heart of Eve."
In his commentary on the story of the Garden of Eden, the original episode of mankind, Rabbi Avraham Ibn Ezra states that Adam is the secret of the brain; Eve, the secret of the heart; the snake, the secret of the liver. In Kabbalah and Chassidut these fundamental correspondences are developed and explained in depth.
Adam and Eve, male and female, are the prototype spiritual forces of giving and receiving. The marital union and gift of male to female relates to the secret of knowledge, as is said: "And Adam knew his wife Eve." For this reason Adam and Eve are often seen to represent teacher and pupil. The teacher contracts his intellect into a point (yud) in order to convey his teaching to his student, whereas the student nullifies his previous levels of conception to become a fitting vessel for the new, wondrous teachings of his teacher.”

Lamed – A Heart that Understands Knowledge – this speaks directly to the Tree of Life and the positions of the Sephirot. Binah is the real creator – Mother, Nature, the womb of our being. She is also associated with Saturn which is the planet that rules matter – the solidifying force. Saturn is also known as the light bearer, the task master that works our life lessons. The third commandment tells us that the name of god, the true name of god is anything but empty when revealed to the initiate. Whether it’s Love, To Love, A heart that Understands Knowledge or EL-YHVH, the incredible depth of this undertaking – Understanding – is undeniable.

For those who wish that I not reduce El’s value from 31 to 4, the total would then become 57 which is equal to the letter Nun (50) and Zayin (7) which is NZ or perhaps Nazi with vowels. The message here in my opinion is keep spirit/humanity elevated above material matters.

I joked when I said that Adonai is substituted in verbal prayers for YHVH because it sounds like I don’t know (I dunno) but in reality when I get to describing Chochmah, I really do feel at a loss to describe it.

The best visual I have of Chochmah’s relationship to Binah and its crossover the abyss is the album cover picture of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. Chochmah sends the pure white light to the Binah prism where its spectrum is divided up into the rays/tones of creation.

Chochmah means Wisdom which implies that creation is infused with a divine intelligence or plan that unfolds in its own way. I say that because actually Saturn rules time as we know it in Binah so Chochmah is beyond time and beyond our material understanding (Binah).

Chochmah itself is associated with the entire Zodiac with its 12 houses. The 12 is directly related to the 12 tribes and the 12 signs of the Great Wheel. Christians might say that this is also representative of the 12 apostles.

The 12:60 concept of the wheel (60 minutes per house/sign for a total circumference of 360 degrees) is solar in nature since the sun’s rotation is closely tied to this construct (tilted axis throw’s it off a notch which is why we have leap years).

What we’ve said though is that YHVH has a gemmatria value of 26 – not 24 which might make sense in a 12:60 system. Where YHVH makes perfect sense however is in a 13:20 system that is used in Mayan timekeeping. The Mayan system is based on a 260 day year which happens to correspond with YHVH multiplied by 10 which is the number of Sephirot. For more on the Mayan calendar see mayaportal.lucita.net/

What’s interesting to me about this system is its evolving cosmic plan that is embedded within it. This resonates with Chochmah to me which of course means Wisdom. The snake or serpent is associated with wisdom as well as the Mayan/Aztec symbol of Quetzalcoatl or the “winged serpent”.

The Mayan calendar is supposed to denote the “End of Days” which is also a concept shared in Judaism as well as Christianity. According to most interpreters of the calendar, the end is supposed come December 21, 2012. My view on this is that there will be a shift of awareness that begins to put our higher selves in the middle of 12 so that we begin to take on the consciousness of the 13 which for Jews would be Israel and his 12 tribes and for Christians, Jesus and his 12 disciples. This is the “Son of Man” or Adam (Adam means Man in Hebrew) which is also associated with Chochmah. Chochmah is the Father and Binah is the Mother.

The Son is born from the marriage of Wisdom and Understanding – Chochmah and Binah – El and YHVH – Love.

The 2nd Commandment tells us to “have no other gods before me” and to “not make for yourself an idol”. This is indicative of the dynamic nature of this Sephira in how it separates and unites gods and names and keeps an inherent mystery alive concerning the nature of our universe. There is no way to capture this dynamic apart from itself nor is there anyway to put any other force before it.

Kether means Crown. The 1st Commandment, which is really a statement (Commandments have been translated to mean Statements), declares “I AM the lord your God that delivered you out of the house of Egypt, from the house of slavery”.

The Hebrew word for Egypt is Mitzrayim which means “narrow place”. The narrow place that’s referred to here is the very bottom of the Tree of Life prior to physical existence and the very top of the Tree prior to physical existence. This is where the I AM meets the I AM. And is described to us as the the Tzimtzum by Isaaic Luria www.newkabbalah.com/index3.html and All That Is when revealed by Seth of Jane Roberts fame.

Seth: "If you prefer, you can call the supreme psychic gestalt God, but you should not attempt to objectify him. What you call God is the sum of all consciousness, and yet the whole is more than the sum of Its parts."

"[It] is not one individual, but an energy gestalt. (It) is a psychic pyramid of interrelated, ever expanding consciousness, that creates simultaneous and instantaneously, universes and individuals that are given duration, psychic comprehension, intelligence and eternal validity. Its energy is so unbelievable that it does indeed form all universes; and because its energy is within and behind all universes, fields and systems, it is indeed aware of each sparrow that falls, for it is each sparrow that falls."

"Dimly remembered through what you would call history, there was a state of agony in which the powers of creativity and existence were known, but the ways to produce them were not known. All That Is existed in a state of being, but without the means to find expression for Its being. All That Is had to learn this lesson, and could not be taught. From this agony, creativity was originally drawn, and its reflection is still seen. All That Is retains the memory of that state, and it serves as a constant impetus toward renewed creativity. Desire, wish and expectation, therefore, rule all actions and are the basis for all realities. Within the dreams of All That Is, potential beings had Consciousness before any beginning as you know it."

The Tree of Life is the Ark-it-type that houses the Covenant and has been sought after over the ages. The “pyramids of consciousness” that Seth speaks of are found in this archetype as it travels from our DNA into our cosmic universe. Noah used it and so can we to balance our energies, raise our consciousness, and tap into the storehouse of wisdom and understanding waiting at our beckoned call.

As we proceed in this endeavor, may we become worthy of wearing the Crown of the Adam Kadmon.

I said Hod (Glory) was associated with the Commandment - Thou shall not steal and I related this directive in light of sexual energy since the initial discussion point was fornication. I've come to realize that Hod, which is ruled by Mercury, invites us to use or avail ourselves of what the universe provides for stimulation, entertainment, survival, whatever. The only trick (Mercury and Gemini can be such tricksters) is we can't possess it. We can't possess anything, because nothing truly belongs to us.

In "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" the Indians struggle with the concept of owning the land since there is no word in their language for land ownership. When we possess something we make ourselves less because we put such a dependence on what it is we are holding onto. Certainly we see this with people, lovers, relatives, ways of ife, habits, routines - much of what the Astrological third house is related to.

Mercury itself cannot be possesed in its active form or mercury poisoning is the result which will attack all the Gemini physical properties such as the nervouse system, communication skills and memory as dementia sets-in.

The key to avoid possession and being possesed (ok we can keep the vampire scenario) is to recognize what it is that we want to possess and then to either develop that quality in ourselves or see it as already there. Lack is something that must be overcome or it will continue look to constantly feed itself.

In the case of Netzach (Victory), we have the problem of adultry associated with. With Venus ruling it's hard to get out of the traditional mindset regarding Venus but that's exactly what we must do to get to the essence of what's being asked in this "commandment". In my mind, what were asked to look at is the 7th house of the Zodiac which is the area of agreements and the resulting growth these agreements foster.

We know that the 8th house of the Zodiac has to deal with transformation as resources are combined by partners. The scorpionic transformation happens as a result of the negotiations that take play so that each person gets what they want and need. We all know this is not easy and compromise usually must occur and trade-offs made between competing wants and needs internally and externally. This is also true with sex encouters which the 8th house also rules.

When agreements are crafted that are win-win, growth and evolution can occur. If agreements are not made, then Peter Pan comes into play. Peter won't be tied down to anything or anyone and as a result "won't grow up". This is an unrestrained Hod which is very strange since Hod is on the restrictive side of the tree and Netzach on the mercy or loose part which raises a very provocative question: Is the Tree of Life twisted in the middle, just like our DNA? I vote yes.
